When Cruickie Beat Fergie...
A late goal from Donald Ford earned Hearts a 1-0 win over Rangers in this Scottish Cup quarter final replay at Tynecastle in March 1968. The maroons reached the final - only to lose to Dunfermline Athletic...
What a night that was! Hammered in the first game we only just escaped with a 1-1 to get the replay. It was so different at Tynecastle under the floodlights - both sides were committed but we slowly forced ourselves more and more forward until Donald Ford broke away, nutmegged the Rangers central defender and clipped it past their keeper. The Rangers crowd had been intimidating (no segregation in those days) and as a young teenager I was nervous of the atmosphere - but I needn't have been, as the goal went in Tynecastle erupted and I realised that the vast majority of people around were celebrating.
That's a great picture
ReplyDeleteI was there!
ReplyDeleteGosh I wasn't even born then ;-)
